Piazza Navona
A BAROQUE GEM IN THE HEART OF ROME

LOCATED IN THE HISTORICAL CENTER OF ROME

Piazza Navona is one of the most famous and popular squares in the eternal city. With its majestic baroque architecture, its elegance and timeless charm, Piazza Navona is a must for every tourist visiting Rome.

SOME HISTORY

The historic square was built in the first century A.C. as a stadium for athletics competitions in the Roman empire and was known as "Circus Agonalis". Over the centuries, the square has undergone many transformations and changes, to become what we know today.

The most significant transformation occurred in the seventeenth century, during the pontificate of Pope Innocent X, who commissioned the architect Francesco Borromini to redesign the square according to the baroque style. Borromini expanded the square and created three large fountains, such as the most famous is the Fountain of the Four Rivers, which represents the four great rivers of the world and their Gods.

WHAT TO SEE IN PIAZZA NAVONA

In addition to the baroque fountains, Piazza Navona also houses three churches: St. Agnes in Agone Church, the Church of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore and the Church of Santa Maria della Pace. These churches are exceptional examples of Baroque architecture and are rich in works of art and art treasures.

But it is not only the architecture that makes Piazza Navona a unique place. The square is a meeting and socializing place for Romans and tourists, who gather here to walk, eat an ice cream, or enjoy the atmosphere. The restaurants and cafes surrounding the square offer a wide selection of local and international cousines.
